Solange met Dan Jager while he worked as an undercover cop during Operation Manhattan. She was an immigrant and he, her American friend, ended up helping her stay in the US through a brief marriage in exchange for a Green Card.

At the end of the Operation, Solange finds out the true identity of her "friend" and they only speak again three years later, when he announces his candidacy for president of the USA.

The success of Operation Manhattan elevates Dan to celebrity status, since he was frequently seen on TV giving interviews and participating in talk shows for late-night news, debating public safety and politics. It is during this time that Dan meets Caroline.

In a short time, they get married and Dan accepts the calling for a career in politics. From there, the couple and Solange, his ex-wife, become entwined in secrets, lies and death.
